Proper Handling of Socket Adaptors and device programmers
Improper handling of socket adaptor and device programmers may cause programming failure. Please be aware of the following cautions and follow the instruction.
For safety of yourself and others.
1.
Before operating a Minato device programmer, please read and understand the operation manual. Improper handling may damage the programmer and the device on the programmer.
2.
To avoid damage of the device and programmer by electrostatic, please discharge it prior to the operation.
3.
Please clean the surface of the programmer and socket adaptor periodically by compressed air. Do not use contact cleaner to clean the socket.
4.
Please do not execute programming when red LED is lit on the socket adaptor with a device. It may generate heat causing damage of the device and the programmer.
5.
The judgment of PASS/FAIL must be confirmed by check-sum. By not following this procedure, bad device may be mixed in the tray of good device.
User Daily Maintenance
1.
Please make sure to supply proper and stable power. Please apply dedicated ground to the programmer.
2.
Avoid using any machine that emits much noise on the same power line. If you have to use such as a unit, please add a noise filter.
3.
Please do not keep the programmer in dusty and/or humid area. Also, please avoid gas, heat wind and direct sun lights. That may damage the unit. When adaptors are used and stored in humid area, that may accelerate the transfer of remaining chemicals and materials from the pins of the devices to the contact of the socket adaptors. Please be aware that chemical reaction and dusts shorten the life of adaptors.
4.
Textools are consumable items. When the ratio of programming failure is increased, it is the time for you to replace them. Please also make sure no foreign items remain in the textool socket.
5.
Please do not cover up the cooling fan of the programmer.
6.
Please make sure that the self-test is successfully completed after turning on the power. Please do not turn on the power when devices and/or socket adaptors are installed on the programmer. When Red LED is lit or error message is displayed right after turning on the power, please report the status of the programmer to your local Minato distributor or Minato Electronics Inc.

Handling of socket adaptors
1.
Socket adaptors are consumable items. When the rate of programming failure is increased, it is the time for you to replace them. The guide-line of the life of the socket adaptor is 10,000 insertion and removal of the device ( in another words 5,000 devices per one socket adaptor). The actual life of the socket adaptor varies by the working environments. The socket life for Pb-free device is shorter since the balls of devices are harder and it is much more difficult for contact pins to beak through the insulation. When failure rate is getting high, please replace the socket adaptors.
2.
The life of the socket is determined by mechanical functionality and contact resistance.
a.
Major mechanical cause of shorting life of the socket is damage of the contact pins, lowered contact pressure, damage of the contact guide.
b.
Contact resistance depends on the amount of tint transferred from the device to the socket. By chemical reaction, it becomes insulation. The level of contact resistance depends on the number of use of the socket and environments (humidity and temperature).
3.
To clean sockets, please use only air to blow dusts. Do not use a contact cleaner that may gather dusts on the contact of the socket adaptors.
4.
Please set the device properly. To remove a device, release or open the socket completely. To set the device, it must be square to the socket. Drop the device onto the socket and do not apply any pressure onto the device. It damages the contact pins.
